Things are really getting exciting in Tasmania’s culinary scene with this weekend seeing the launch of two new outdoor markets featuring some of our best vendors. Street Eats @ Franko was a huge success on Friday night and this Sunday the party continues on to the inaugural Hobart Food Truck Market. Here’s a preview of the some of the treats in store!
Van Demons Cafe de Wheels will bring their famous burgers and wings, hopefully including their massive Triple Cheeseburger we’ve been eyeing off.
Black Box Kitchen is the brain child of illustrious Hobart Chef Paul Foreman and features delicious combinations of ingredients stuffed inside a Brazilian cheese bread “box”. It’s great food to walk around with, the Confit Duck being a firm favourite of ours.
Munchies Street Food is another truck with a respected chef at the helm. D C Lim headed the kitchen at Glasshouse and won the THA award for best Tasmanian Chef this year before starting up his own food van. His team serves up an exciting array of Asian inspired food including excellent Korean Fried Chicken and Bao.
The Ember Box come all the way from The Netherlands bringing hand crafted wood fired pizzas. We haven’t tried them yet but have heard great things!
Taco Taco are one of our favourites. Great flavours and exciting combinations, they’re ridiculously cheap as well encouraging you to try them all and you really should.
Big Henry’s Food Truck continues its fight against bland food with an assortment of offerings including loaded fries, sliders, a giant toasted sandwich and traditional poutine. Trust me, try the poutine.
Kombi Keg are another vendor we haven’t encountered but they’re exactly what the name suggests, a Kombi turned into a keg serving up a delicious sounding assortment of beverages. Looking forward to checking them out.
Wattlebanks have some of the freshest seafood around and they know how to cook it! Chef Rodney Dann brings passion and knowledge with dishes of calamari and oysters being the standouts.
Hobart Brewing Co will serve the beverages and provide live entertainment.
And that’s not even all with more booked in to delight! Hobart Food Truck Market has you covered for breakfast, lunch and dinner running from 9am to 6pm starting Sunday the 4th of December at Red Square in Evans St. It’s continuing on Sundays after on a trial basis so if you love the idea then get behind it.
