Eating healthy isn’t often a consideration when I’m dining out, my eyes will quickly be drawn to the sticky slow cooked meats, the buttery delights and the delicious things in bread. So when my oft made decision to restart healthier eating coincided with lacking the will to cook lunch it was set to be an inner battle.

Berta has many, many temptations. An amazing dish of Brisket, Onion Rings, Eggs and Hollandaise is often my choice or there’s the Spring Onion Pancake with Sticky Pork Belly or a wonderful Duck Ragu on most excellent Gnocchi. They even had a new dish of BBQ Spare Rib Taco on offer to test my willpower! But I was strong and choose the salad and by completion of the meal I was left very satisfied with that decision.
“Kale and Quinoa Salad with Roast Butternut Pumpkin, Puffed Quinoa, Roast Almonds, Sumac, Persian Fetta and Burnt Honey Orange Dressing” was the description and I’d have trouble ordering such a “hippy” sounding dish in most establishments but I trust the kitchen team at Berta. It was a mature and delicious salad full of complimentary flavours and textures. I choose the option of adding cured trout to the dish, you could also add chicken, and it was silken soft and some of the best I’ve enjoyed. All up a great meal with no complaints.
I really do like Berta, if you haven’t guessed already, one of the best spots in North Hobart with interesting food, great coffee and friendly service.
