Is it fair to review a dish that no longer exists?
I went through a roller coaster of emotions today as I:
- Entered the restaurant knowing exactly what I wanted.
- Approached the counter to order and spotted what I realised I really wanted on the specials board.
- Was told by the waitress that she thought they’d sold out of it, but she’ll double check.
- Huzzah! One serve remaining!
- ??????????
- Burger!

The Mr America Burger lived up to its name with plenty (3!) slices of cheese, pickles, sauces and salad. A classic combination that can be so often disappointing but this was a success, great ratios of each of the ingredients and the entire thing tasted fresh and exciting. It was a very safe burger though and I kind of liked that at the time but it didn’t make me want to rush out and buy another, even if I could!
I do like Burger Haus, the vibe is laid back and casual, service is friendly and quick and the food generally fresh, good and reasonably priced. In fairness then I’ll show you two other burgers that you can order from them.

The Haus Burger is their signature and it shows that they’re serious about providing a quality burger. The bacon is crispy, the onion rings tasty and the entire package provides a delicious and satisfying meal. It’s not perfect, I’m not a fan of the burnt branding on top of the bun and I’d like a meatier patty, but it’s still an excellent burger.

Slow cooked meats and ‘slaw are so 2014 but I’m more than happy to see them live on. The fillings here in The Wild Boar are great with a tonne of flavour, the meat moist and tender and the galliano and fennel mayo adding zing. It was let down on this occasion by a really dry bun which put a dampener on what otherwise would have been a real treat.
You can find The Burger Haus in North Hobart up a laneway behind Capital in the main restaurant block. They cater well to vegetarians and those gluten intolerant.
