It’s an oft asked question in parts of the internet, “Where can I go for meat free delights in Hobart?”, so we’re compiling a list of vegan, vegetarian and vegetarian friendly dining spots in the region. If we’ve missed anything please let us know your suggestions and we look forward to doing more detailed reviews of each venue at a later date. At time of writing there are no purely vegetarian dinner options in the area.

Vegetarian/Vegan

Thai Vegie Hutt Shu Yuan

Popular lunch spot in the CBD with a selection of dishes from the bain marie or cooked to order. They have a selection of mock meat all made in house with the BBQ “pork” being especially tasty. Website

Pulp Friction

With two stores they offer a great range of juices and smoothies plus soups, curries and seasonal salads alongside raw and vegan snacks. Focus is on wholefoods and super foods. Website

The Soup Stop

Indian street food and cafe with pakhoras, curries, dahl and more traditional meals. Seating is limited and it’s a bit of a walk from the CBD but worth it. Website

HeartFood

Found at the entrance to The Bank Arcade this eatery has a large range of styles on offer from vegan lasagna to stuffed cabbage rolls to Asian style noodle dishes as well as a large range of teas and vegan desserts. No website.

Chai Vegetarian Cuisine

Hidden away in Mathers Lane off Elizabeth Street and boasting a menu of Chinese dishes featuring noodles, tofu, fresh vegetables and more. No Website.

MoMo Bubble Tea House

Japanese inspired cuisine and more with an extensive amount of dishes using mock meat as well as desserts and their famous bubble tea. Plenty for vegans and very reasonably priced being popular with students. Website

Straight Up Coffee +Food

Delicious modern cafe fare with a focus also on gluten free and non-refined sugar. They’re serious about their coffee as well and roast their own beans in house plus have a range of goods you can take home after. Website

Vegetarian friendly

Frankies Empire

Mostly vegetarian with plenty for vegans as well; the focus is on delicious warming soups, curries and their famous pakhoras with seasonal specials and salads. They offer breakfast as well as a range of vegan cakes and treats, fresh crushed juices and coffee. Website

The Homestead

Pub and entertainment venue in North Hobart they have quite a range on offer for vegetarians and vegans including an occasional vegan feast night and an international menu from curries to burritos. Website

Raspberry Fool

Small french style cafe with a good range of vegan dishes and desserts. They make their own bread and serve a great coffee. Website

The Burger Haus

As the name suggests, they do burgers and do them well. What sets them apart for this page is the large amount of different vegetarian burgers on offer, it’s not just the token one you find elsewhere! Website

Pollen Tea Room

Delicious and varied teas plus an extensive range of innovative dishes, most of which are vegetarian. Found just outside the city in historic Battery Point. Website

Monsoon Thai Fusion

Another great place in Battery Point with a long list of vegetarian dishes. Website

Shoebox Cafe

Fresh, natural ingredients and great coffee. Website

    Machine, The Criterion, Pashas, Sapa Rose, Noodle House (North Hobart), The Standard, Burger Got Soul, Yu’s Asian Kitchen (Blackman’s Bay), The Capital, The Brunswick (Mushroom Parmigiana), Vannies. All have great Veggie options. I am vegetarian.

      Add in for vegetarian Hobart: Urban Greek and Syra who both have superb vegetarian food.
